Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
FourJars is a family allowance app that helps parents and children track money across four jars — spend, save, give, and earn. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what the app needs to work, and we never sell your data.
Information we collect
- Family account: your family name, the email address used to set up the account (for email verification and PIN recovery), a generated family code, and the parent PIN.
- Family members: the names, emoji, and roles (parent or child) you add for members of your family.
- Transactions: the amounts, notes, categories, and dates of the earn/spend/save/give entries you record.
- Notifications: a device push token, if you enable notifications, so we can alert you to allowance and approval events.
- Usage analytics: in-app events (such as screen views and actions), along with your IP address and the country derived from it, used to understand and improve the app.
How we use information
- To provide the core features: tracking balances, allowances, savings interest, approvals, and giving.
- To verify your email and help you recover your family code and PIN.
- To send notifications you opt into (you can turn these off in Settings).
- To understand overall usage and improve the app.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers that operate the app on our behalf:
- Supabase — hosts our database.
- Vercel — hosts our backend/API.
- Resend — sends account emails (verification, PIN recovery).
- Expo — delivers push notifications.
- ip-api.com — derives an approximate country from your IP for analytics.
Children's privacy
FourJars is designed to be managed by a parent or guardian. Children's profiles and entries are created and controlled by the family's parent account and are only visible within that family. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside of a parent-managed family account.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your family's data for as long as your account is active. A parent can delete the entire family from within the app, which removes the family and its members, transactions, and settings from our database. To request deletion or ask a question, contact us at the address below.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our hosting providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
